Who Will Build the Brisbane 2032 Stadium?

BRIS2032 — Independent Coverage  ·  Last updated 1 October 2026

A joint venture of BESIX Watpac and John Holland. On 30 September 2026 the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority named the pair as the only bidder going through to final contract negotiations for the 63,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park. The contract is expected to be signed in the new year and construction to start in 2027. The stadium is slated to cost about A$3.6 billion inside the A$7.1 billion infrastructure deal with the federal government, though the Premier won't put a figure on the project itself. Between them the two companies built Lang Park, the Gabba, Docklands in Melbourne and Penrith Stadium.

TL;DR

  • Builder: BESIX Watpac and John Holland, sole finalist, named 30 September 2026.
  • Designers: Cox, Hassell and Azusa Sekkei, appointed January 2026.
  • Cost: about A$3.6 billion, within the A$7.1 billion Games infrastructure plan.
  • Timeline: contract in the new year, construction from 2027, earthworks already under way.
  • After 2032: home of the Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls.

What was announced?

GIICA chief executive Simon Crooks said the early contract process, which began in October 2025, had delivered "the best possible contractor" for the second and final phase. The consortium now works with the design team on the detail and the construction method before contracts are finalised.

Olympics Minister Tim Mander called it an important step and said the job now was to "nut out the contracts so we can make sure there are no cost blowouts". Premier David Crisafulli said he had never revealed budgets for individual projects and would release details when the stadium is finished.

What does it mean for a 2032 visitor?

The stadium now has a designer, a builder and a site with earthworks on it. What it still doesn't have is a published completion date or a name. We'll report both the day they're announced; until then nobody can tell you when it opens.

For planning, nothing changes this month. The venue is where it was always going to be, a 20-minute walk from the CBD and next to the RNA Showgrounds athletes' village. Our Victoria Park stadium page has the location, transport and where-to-stay detail, and we update it every time one of these decisions lands.

Still unknown

The individual stadium budget. The completion date. The name. Whether the Gabba wicket is moved, and what that costs: the Premier declined to say on 21 September.
