Where to Eat
& Drink in Brisbane
Brisbane's food scene has transformed. From riverside fine dining to Asian street food markets — here's where to eat, by neighbourhood and occasion.
Howard Smith Wharves
Under the Story Bridge · New Farm
The city's most spectacular dining precinct — converted wharves beneath the Story Bridge with top restaurants, cocktail bars, and unbeatable river views. Book dinner ahead; lunch walk-ins are usually fine.
South Bank Dining Strip
South Bank Parklands
Long riverside strip of restaurants, cafes, and bars next to the cultural precinct and Streets Beach. Works for all ages — pizza, seafood, Thai, burgers. Perfect before or after a venue visit.
Eat Street Northshore
Hamilton · North Brisbane
80+ food stalls inside repurposed shipping containers on the river — the most fun casual night out in Brisbane. Huge variety, BYOB, loud, buzzing. Friday to Sunday evenings only.
James Street, Fortitude Valley
Fortitude Valley · 10 min from CBD
Brisbane's most curated strip — specialty coffee, all-day brunch spots, and upmarket restaurants. Saturday morning here is a Brisbane institution. Best coffee in the city by some margin.
Sunnybank
Sunnybank · South Brisbane
Brisbane's Asian food hub — authentic Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Taiwanese. No tourist markups, just exceptional food at real prices. The best value eating in the city, 20 min from South Bank.
Teneriffe & New Farm
New Farm · Inner north Brisbane
Brunswick Street and Merthyr Road are lined with independent restaurants, wine bars, and brunch spots loved by locals. Less tourist-facing than South Bank — better quality, better value, more character.
West End Farmers Market
West End · Saturday mornings
Saturday morning market on Davies Park — local produce, artisan food stalls, fresh coffee, and live music. The most genuine local experience in Brisbane. Arrive early; it fills up by 9am.
Fish Lane, South Brisbane
South Brisbane · Near South Bank
A laneway of bars, wine bars, and casual restaurants tucked behind South Bank. Best evening option if you want something interesting and lower-key — great natural wine list, outdoor seating.
Eagle Street Pier
CBD · Brisbane River
Riverfront strip in the CBD with a range of options from quick lunches to proper sit-down dinners. Great CBD location — easy walk from the Botanic Gardens and Story Bridge.
Day trip · Gold Coast
Eating on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast's best dining neighbourhood — Burleigh Heads village has excellent cafes, restaurants, and the famous Burleigh Heads Hotel. Far better than Surfers Paradise for eating.
Close to Cbus Super Stadium (football venue) — compact walkable precinct with good Asian options, Italian, and the nearby Pacific Fair shopping centre food court for families.
Quieter end of the coast with excellent seafood. The Currumbin RSL is a local institution — huge food selection, ocean views, and very family friendly.
