When are the Brisbane 2032 Olympics?

The Olympic Games open on 23 July 2032 and close on 8 August 2032. The Paralympic Games open on 24 August 2032 and close on 5 September 2032. Those dates have not shifted since the International Olympic Committee awarded Brisbane the Games in 2021.

Brisbane in late July is the reason those dates were chosen. It is the middle of a subtropical winter: dry, mild during the day, cool at night, and almost nothing like the Brisbane summer people picture. For athletes it is close to ideal. For visitors it means packing for a mild European spring rather than a tropical holiday.

Detailed session schedules do not exist yet, and will not until much closer to the Games. Anything claiming to list Brisbane 2032 session times today is guessing.

Where will Brisbane 2032 events be held?

Across South East Queensland. Treating Brisbane 2032 as a Brisbane-only event is the single most common mistake people make when they start planning.

The centrepiece is a new Olympic stadium at Victoria Park in Herston, about two kilometres north of the CBD. It replaced the plan to rebuild the Gabba, which was dropped in the venue reset announced in March 2025 after a review found the Gabba rebuild unworkable on cost and timing. Victoria Park will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics.

Beyond that, venues are spread from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, with Toowoomba and Rockhampton also hosting. Rowing goes to the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, roughly 600 kilometres north of Brisbane. If you are planning to watch rowing, you are planning a separate trip.

Which sports will be at Brisbane 2032?

The 28 core Olympic sports are effectively guaranteed: athletics, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sailing, football, hockey and the rest of the permanent programme. What is not settled is which of the newer additions make it.

In May 2025 the IOC made clear that Brisbane will not match the 36-sport programme Los Angeles 2028 is running. Host cities propose additional sports and the IOC decides. Cricket, flag football, squash, lacrosse and baseball-softball were added for LA28, and there is no guarantee any of them carry through to 2032.

The initial Brisbane programme is due to be settled at an IOC session. Until then, treat any sport outside the core 28 as a maybe.

When do Brisbane 2032 tickets go on sale?

No date has been announced. The most useful comparison is LA28, which opened global sales on 9 April 2026 — about two years and three months before its Games. Applying the same gap to Brisbane points to roughly early-to-mid 2030.

That is a comparison, not an announcement, and it is worth saying plainly because a lot of sites present it as fact. Around 10 million Olympic tickets and 3.4 million Paralympic tickets are expected to go on sale, almost certainly through a registration and ballot system for high-demand sessions, sold exclusively through the official platform.

Anyone selling you a Brisbane 2032 ticket today is selling you something that does not exist.

How much will Brisbane 2032 tickets cost?

No prices have been set. Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris has said an affordable ticket should sit in the A$30 to A$50 range. That is a stated intention, not a price list.

The useful evidence comes from the last two Games. LA28 put more than a million tickets on sale at US$28, which its organising committee calls the lowest priced Olympic ticket in modern history, and priced nearly half of all Olympic tickets under US$200. Only about 5 per cent sit above US$1,000. Paris 2024 sold roughly 10 million tickets, a million of them at €24, with almost half the total at €50 or less.

Olympic pricing is two markets stacked on each other: a large, deliberately cheap public tier, and a small premium tier that funds it. Headlines almost always quote the second one.

Can you book accommodation for Brisbane 2032 yet?

No, and nobody can. Hotels do not release Games-period inventory until roughly 12 to 18 months out. Any site offering you a Brisbane 2032 room today is either selling a normal 2026 booking or selling nothing at all.

Six years out, the question worth asking is whether the rooms will exist. The Property Council of Australia and CBRE put Queensland about 14,700 rooms short of what the Games need, with the development pipeline tracking for roughly a quarter of that. In the year to May 2026, exactly one new hotel opened across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

That gap is the most consequential unresolved fact about Brisbane 2032, and it gets a fraction of the coverage the stadium does.

How do you get to Brisbane, and around it?

Almost everyone arrives through Brisbane Airport (BNE). Domestic and international terminals sit a few kilometres apart, linked by the Airtrain, which also runs into the CBD in about 20 minutes. Interstate visitors have more options: short domestic flights from every capital, a train-and-ferry combination, or the drive up the coast.

Once you are here, you probably do not need a car. Brisbane's venues cluster around the river and the inner city, and the whole place runs on TransLink — trains, buses, and the CityCat ferries that double as the best cheap sightseeing in town. Cross River Rail adds a new underground line and four CBD stations. Brisbane Metro, a bus rapid transit network, is expanding with a planned airport link.

Whether a Games ticket gets you free public transport has not been confirmed. Several recent Olympics have bundled it. Brisbane has not said either way.

What about the Brisbane 2032 Paralympics?

The Paralympic Games run from 24 August to 5 September 2032, with 22 sports across 37 venues. The opening and closing ceremonies are at the new Victoria Park stadium.

Venues are being built to accessibility standards. The city around them is the harder question. In 2022 the Queensland Human Rights Commissioner said around 40 per cent of South East Queensland railway stations were reachable only by stairs. We went looking for a more recent published figure and could not find one, which is itself worth noting six years out from a Paralympic Games.

What changed in 2026?

The two developments that actually move the picture:

LA28 opened ticket sales in April 2026 and published its pricing. That gives the first hard benchmark for what Brisbane's own “affordable” promise might mean in practice, and it is more informative than anything Brisbane has published about its own tickets.

IP Australia rejected the ‘Brisbane Stadium’ trademark. Queensland wanted the name locked so it could not be sold to a sponsor. The refusal means the protection now rests on political will rather than law.

Construction at Victoria Park continues. The accommodation pipeline has not meaningfully improved.
